Percheron breed history
Persheronov was bred at the beginning of the 19th century in France. They "merged" the blood of eastern (mainly Arab) stallions and local heavy-duty mares. People needed fast enough, but at the same time hardy and strong horses that would carry mail carriages and omnibuses. But perchers are more likely not the result of purposeful selection, but the product of living conditions in their historical homeland.
The breed received its name from the province of Perche on the south bank of the Seine. These places abound with magnificent pastures, which made horse breeding possible.
Pershers are strong, tall horses that move mainly in strides and unhurried trot.
In France, perchers are divided into large, medium and small. Middle perchers are the most common.
